Wondering where the light is? The Dark Soul is the other side of life that we all want to avoid, distract, dissociate from, numb out or just plain ignore. And here is where you will find the richer parts of you.  Yes, sometimes it is a bit of a confusing, muddy, sticky and stinky swamp in there!  Or maybe there is a really painful bit of deep grief or scary abandonment feelings, or held back, repressed anger, or please don’t go there, a deep well of never ending shame!

The wholeness of your being is in embracing both the dark and light aspects of yourself.  Most of us want to only think of ourselves in a positive light; where we are only successful, kind, generous, with great relationships and good health.  But the reality of it is a much more complex picture.  Our personality has an Ego that wants to only see things that are flattering and deny things that are shameful or painful. The truth is that when we can make friends with our dark side, or our shadow self as Carl Jung would call it, we paradoxically become more whole in our being, and more whole in our soul!

The Dark Soul is made up of the parts of ourselves that make us feel uncomfortable in our body.  As we increase our distance from this uncomfortable feeling, we can start to disconnect or dissociate from it and our bodies then begin to carry the dark awareness in an unconscious way.  There is often a connection between the illness in the body and an emotional history that has some relationship to an early soul wound or traumatic experience.  The Chinese medical model has a unique understanding of the body with a meridian system that acupuncture is based upon.  They have developed some of the relationships between the physical body with emotional content to an incredibly remarkable and scientific degree.  According to their system, for example, the liver is where anger is stored and the gall bladder is where deep resentment or bitterness is held.  I have also found that anger can be held or trapped in the intestines of the gut from a confusing mix of deep fear with the anger that can be a possible root soul reason for Irritable Bowel Syndrome.  Or there have been studies where they found that many people with cancer are often very sweet and nice people who are not able to be in touch with their own anger to empower themselves and claim back their life!  The personality profile of a typical cancer patient are often pleasers, people who find it difficult to say ‘No’ to others or who have a difficulty to hold healthy boundaries. There will also be other repressed feelings as well, as each person will have a unique story that makes up the totality of their body/mind experience and dark soul illness.

There are so many different places that the Dark Soul of our self can take us. I now love exploring my dark soul side! Can you imagine embracing your own dark soul? I have cultivated a gentle curiosity about it that I know always brings me back more of me and gives me more vitality and joy and energy! As guessed you could say that I am Dark Soul obsessed!

Next week I will be offering a complimentary introduction webinar on The Dark Soul of Christmas which will go more into some of these darker places.  Join me and let’s travel into the darkness together – so much better than being alone in it, with a seasoned guide holding a thread of light too, don’t you think?

I’d love your feedback. And feel free to leave a link back to your own blog too if you have one via the commentluv feature here on the site.
